SALL4 gene was aberrantly expressed in many leukemia cell lines and primary leukemia cells of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The aim of this study was to investigate the expression level of the gene and its clinical significance in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Quantitative real-time PCR (qrt-PCR) was performed to detect the expression level of SALL4 mRNA in the bone marrow or peripheral blood samples from 52 AML and 10 control samples. The results indicated that the expression level of SALL4 in AML (median: 2.0 RQ) was obviously higher than that in controls (media: 1 RQ) with p value: 0.001. There was no statistically significant difference between cases and control in SALL4 gene expression with the age, sex, WBC count, Hb concentration, platelet count, chromosomal abnormalities of AML patients, FAB and WHO classification (P > 0.05)
