Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Urban and Regional Planning - Department of Urban Design Summary: Providing quality parks and recreational spaces for inner city residents especially in Metropolitan cities is considered a huge predicament. Cities are challenged to overcome the global phenomenal of UHI, escalated densities and limited amount of available land, through new opportunities and potential solutions in providing green spaces to mitigate UHI impacts and promote the community{u2019}s quality of life. Pocket parks arise as a solution to provide public spaces in such crowded environments. This research reports the results of an empirical study performed in a residential informal district in Cairo city, the primary purpose is to provide a proposed framework to create and implement pocket parks in Egyptian cities with the community participation. Questioners, interviews and observations are conducted, the results indicate the transforming of vacant land into pocket parks which is highly supported by the residents in the area
