Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of General Surgery Summary: Most of thyroid pathologies are treated by TT. An important disadvantage of TT is the high incidence of hypocalcemia due to parathyroid glands devascularization. A low complication rate is the advantage of STT, but secondary thyroidectomy may be necessary because of recurrence of same existing pathology after STT and is associated with increased morbidity. Also, secondary thyroidectomy associates with a higher incidence of both hypoparathyroidism with resulting hypocalcaemia and RLN injury (Müller et al., 2001). In surgery, performance can be assessed by the occurrence rate of postoperative complications and experience which can be measured by surgeon{u2019}s age or time spent in practice. Acquiring the necessary technical background can take time before individuals are able to master routine procedures and achieve better outcomes
