The main question this thesis aimed at answering was: Based on the analysis of the EU{u2019}s role in the Eastern European Countries{u2019} transitional phases, to what extent could the policies implemented by the EU in the EE democratization be of relevance to that in Egypt; and the EU{u2019}s role in the latter{u2019}s transition? This question was answered by drawing implications on and recommendations for Egypt, after having analyzed the EU{u2019}s democratization assistance policies with Eastern Europe, and with Egypt. The main implications were the similar policies the EU implemented with Eastern Europe and Egypt, as the more country-specific assistance approach, the increased focus with civil society assistance, and the enhanced used of the Socialization approach. While the deduced differences could be summarized in the Accession Policy, and the EU{u2019}s use of Administrative reforms with Eastern Europe, as opposed to Democracy and Human Rights with Egypt. Finally, it was concluded by drawing some recommendations for the EU in order to become more influential with Egypt{u2019}s democratization process; and that entails having a higher degree of preferential treatment (special-status partnership) with Egypt, and focusing its aids as rewards-for-achieved-reforms, and not as incentives-for-promised-reforms
