The aim of the current study was to evaluate the effect of oropharyngeal care using breast milk on the incidence of neonatal VAP.The current study was conducted in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of Elmounira Pediatric Hospital {u2013} Cairo University. Quasi experimental design was utilized on convenient sample composed of sixty neonates divided into two groups, the first 30 neonates were considered as an intervention group who were exposed to oropharyngeal care using breast milk. The second 30 neonates were considered as a control group who received the NICUs routine oral care, starting within the first forty eight hours of mechanical ventilation. Data were collected from the beginning of October 2016 to the end of March 2017 using the following tools, neonatal characteristics sheet and clinical pulmonary infection score (CPIS) that developed by Pugin (1991) to detect the incidence of VAP. Results revealed that after oropharyngeal care using breast milk the incidence of VAP and CPIS score were significantly lowered in the study group compared to control group
