Subsets of patients with core binding factor acute myeloid leukemia may relapse after the first complete remission. We have investigated the frequency and the effect of KIT mutations on the outcome of patients with CBF-AML. 69 patients (35 pediatrics and 34 adults) with CBF-AML were enrolled in the study. The frequency of KIT mutations was higher in adults compared to pediatrics (22.9% and 14.7%, p=0.38) respectively. Leukocytosis {u2265}20x109 /L was significantly associated with pediatrics compared to adults, (64.7%vs 40%, p=0.04) respectively. t(8;21)(q22;22) was significantly associated with thrombocytopenia {u2264} 20x109 /L compared to inv (16) in adults (50% vs 7.7%, p=0.01). We conclude that children CBF-AML presents with leukocytosis.Thrombocytopenia is an adverse prognostic factor in adults CBF-AML. t(8;21) is associated with thrombocytopenia in CBF- AML
