Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Orthodontics Summary: The objective of this 2-arm parallel randomized controlled trial was to evaluate whether unlocking the mandible from deep-bite in patients with skeletal Class II malocclusion due to a deficient mandible ,will improve the mandibular position or dimensions. Methods: The study included 42 skeletal Class II growing girls. The eligibility criteria included a deficient mandible, a horizontal growth pattern, an increased overjet, dental deep-bite.Two fixed appliances were used to unlock the mandible from deep-bite; the flat anterior bite plane(group 1) and the modified inclined anterior bite plane(group 2).Outcomes: The primary outcome of this study was to assess the improvement of the mandibular position or dimensions after unlocking the mandible from deep-bite which will lead to subsequent profile improvement. The secondary outcomes were the effect of the appliance on maxilla and the dental changes. Randomization: A random sequence table was manually generated in a 1:1 allocation ratio. Allocation concealment was achieved with opaque sealed envelopes numbered from 1 to 42. Blinding: Blinding of the clinicians and the patients to the intervention was impossible, but it was done for the outcome assessment and the statistician
