Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine- Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics Summary: Objective: The aim of the study is to compare between induction of abortion by Letrozole prior to Misoprostol versus Misoprostol only. Methods: A total of 90 women diagnosed with missed, inevitable miscarriage or pregnant with a fetus suffering from congenital anomalies incompatible with life were enrolled in the study. 45 ladies were randomly allocated to receive Letrozole prior to Misoprostol for induction of abortion, while the other 45 ladies were allocated to receive only Misoprostol for induction of abortion. The complete abortion rate was calculated, together with 2ry outcome variables including; the time elapsed to complete abortion, doses of cytotec needed to complete abortion and complications. Results: Rate of successful complete medical abortion with no need for surgical intervention was significantly higher in the Letrozole group. Conclusion: Letrozole, when added to Misoprostol in induction of abortion, can decrease the need for surgical intervention
