Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Physical Therapy - Department of Physical Therapy for Surgery Summary: The Purpose : This study was conducted to determine the therapeutic efficiency of shock wave in accelerating of ulceration stump wound healing and to determine the therapeutic efficiency of vacuum assisted closure in accelerating of ulceration stump wound healing and to determine which one of both modalities is more effective in the process of wound healing in cases of stump Ulceration.Group (A) : This group included 15 patients with chronic unhealed stump ulcer and received shock wave therapy and medical care treatment. Group (B) : This group included 15 patients with chronic unhealed stump ulcer and received VAC therapy and medical care treatment. The patients in both groups were assessed before treatment, after 2 weeks, after 4 weeks and after 6 weeks of treatment application. There were two parameters of assessment, the first one was ulcer surface area and the other one was ulcer volume. Results : For group (A) and (B) ,The ulcer volume and Area measurement within group's comparison the mean ± SD values of Ulcer volume and Area measurement in the "pretreatment","post two weeks","post four weeks" and 2post six weeks3 in the group (A). revealed that there were significant differences of Ulcer volume and Area in compared to pretreatment. But Group (B) shows more significant difference in area and volume than group (A).Conclusion : Both Shock wave and Vacuum assisted closure are effective in treatment of stump wound ulcerations by the significant decrease in ulcer surface area and volume.Vacuum assisted closure showed more significant difference than shock wave therapy in ulcer surface area and volume
