Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Regional and Urban Planning - Department of Urban Design Summary: The output of this thesis contributes to the reinterpretation of3 healing public spaces3 from restoration and behavioral science to be transformed into the building morphology as vertical gardens in urban spaces. As an alternative strategy to improve general health and enhance urban quality of life. New Cairo faced problems that negatively affected the individual quality of life, limited green areas and affected the well-being. This thesis is proposing a vertical gardens{u2019} framework as a building morphology providing restoration effect in urban public spaces of New Cairo. And it is achieved through,1-formulating a process of application and a morphological model for design and implementation process. Which is built from the theoretical study and analysis of literature and administrating international and local interviews to experts in the field. 2- Investigating the social acceptance towards the application, through survey questionnaires to users in urban spaces of New Cairo. 3- And assessing the restorative effect of the application; using a non-equivalent quasi-experimental approach.Results was presented in a quantitative manner through ANOVA, T tests and mean rating comparative analysis. Findings proved the research hypothesis; that vertical gardens with restorative qualities and healing characteristics could add to the quality of urban life, increase restoration effect and lower stress levels of users in public spaces.In addition to the high social acceptance towards vertical gardens
