Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - National Cancer Institute- Department of Oncology (Surgical) Summary: Background Inguinal lymph node dissection is an integral part of many surgical oncology procedures. The traditional open approach has a high complication rate specially skin complications. A minimally invasive approach using standard laparoscopy instruments has been reported in 2003 and is gaining acceptance worldwide. Retrograde inguinal dissection is performed via ports inserted around the apex of the femoral triangle thus avoiding the inguinal incision notorious for its high complication rate. Aim of work This is a prospective study aiming to describe and illustrate a new minimally invasive approach for resection of inguinal lymph nodes for treatment of locoregional malignancy. The aim is to evaluate safety, feasibility and efficacy of technique, operative outcomes and morbidity Patients and methods Twenty patients requiring inguinal lymphadenectomy for management of locoregional cancer underwent minimally invasive inguinal lymph node dissection. The results were compared retrospectively with 20 open inguinal lymphadenectomies. The outcomes studied included operative time, intraoperative complications, length of hospital stay and number of retrieved lymph nodes
