Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Chemical Engineering Summary: Biochar is produced from pea peel and watermelon peel by removing the water content using concentrated sulfuric acid. The resulting biochar is then treated with ozone gas in the presence of water, and then the biochar surface is modified by boiling with ammonia or triethylenetetramine to introduce nitrogen to the biochar surface to increase the efficiency of the biochar in the absorption of pollutants. The biochar produced was then tested before and after the modification in removing dyes and heavy metals from the water. The produced materials proved highly effective in removing contaminants from the water
