Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Agriculture - Department of Ornamental Horticulture Summary: The present study was carried during the seasons from 2015 to 2017,at the Ornamental Horticulture Department , faculty of Agriculture,Cairo university ,Giza, Egypt. The experiments were done at the nursery of Institute, Fruit , Woody and ornamental plants Department, Agriculture Research Center , Giza, Egypt., to study the effect of gamma irradiation and chemical mutagens on Tagetes erecta, plants. First Experiment: effect of radiation, gamma ray at 5Kr,10Kr and 15Kr. on the vegetative growth and chemical constituents of Tagetes erecta.Data showed that , gamma ray treatments(5,10 and 15 Kr.)decrease , plant height, percentage of seed germination and the number of leaves. Plants treated with 5Kr increased length of shoot and number of shoot.Earlier flower bud initiation was observed significaltly with all treatments of gamma ray in comare to the control treatment. Plants treated with 5Kr least number of days required for flower opening. Treated plants with 5,10 Kr dose increased flower diameter , number of flower per plant , fresh and dry plant masses and leaves area .Also, contents of chlorophylls a- b, carotenoides (mg/g F.W) in the leaves and total carbohydrates ( D.W% )
