Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Ophthalmology Summary: Purpose: Evaluation of the influence of perioperative topical nepafenac on retinal vasculature following uneventful phacoemulsification using optical coherence tomographyangiography. Methods: This prospective comparative randomized study was carried out on 54 eyes with cataract. All patientsreceived postoperative topical steroids (Prednisolone acetate 1%) and antibiotics (Gatifloxacin) in addition to: topical Nepafenac 0.1% 3 days preoperatively and for 1 month postoperatively 4 times daily in the first group and topical Nepafenac 0.1% for only 1 month postoperatively 4 times daily in the second group and a third group serve as a control. All patients underwent phacoemulsification.OCTA of macula was done 1 week and 1month after phacoemulsification. Main outcome measures: Comparing all qualitative and quantitative OCTA parameters between the 3 groups. Secondary outcome measures: Comparingbest corrected visual acuity between the 3 groups andCorrelation between BCVA and all OCTA parameters in each group. Results:The quantitative parameters analysis showed no statistically significant difference between the groups or over time in each group except a statistically significant increase in superficial capillary plexus vessel density at 1 month in the postoperative group and a statistically significant increase in central foveal thickness at 1 month in control and postoperative groups. The qualitative parameters analysis showed no statistically significant difference between the 3 groups or over time in each group except a statistically significant reduced number of patients with SCP disorganization of the postoperative group at baseline compared to the other 2 groups that was statistically significant increased at 1 month to be similar to the other 2 groups
