Background: Liver transplantation (LT) is currently the definitive treatment for most acute, fulminant and chronic liver diseases for which no alternative therapy is available.Post-transplant mineral bone disorders are common major problems that can affect long-term outcomes as well as increase the likelihood of fractures mainly in the first year post transplantation. AIM: To assess bone diseases, vitamin D, total & ionized calcium and parathormone levels before LT and the effect of vitamin D & calcium supplementation on the bone diseases after LT and on the levels of vitamin D and calcium after LT in a cohort of Egyptian patients. METHODS: Bone mineral density (BMD) was measured by standard dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scan together with vitamin D levels measured by (HPLC) technique, total & ionized calcium and PTH levels all were done before LT and 6 months after LT after proper vitamin D and calcium supplementation
