Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of African Postgraduate Studies - Department of Natural Resources Summary: The desert locust, Schistocerca gregaria (Forskål) is one of the most dangerous pests that threaten global food security. Egypt is one of the countries within the invasion region of this pest, in addition to the African migratory locust, Locusta migratoria migratorioides (Reiche & Fairmaire) which habited in Egypt, threatens crops of high economic value in the areas of land reclamation (Toshka and Shark El-Owinat).Thousands of liters of traditional pesticides, especially organophosphate pesticide, such as chlorpyrifos are used to combat these pests, which cause serious environmental damage, the most important of which is the amount of pesticides residues in the soil and plants that have high damage effects on humans and animals that feed on them. So, pesticides usage should be reduced and instead usage of alternatives elements to pesticides like entomopathogenic agents and Naturalyte insecticides like spinosad is preferable
