Dissertation note: Thesis (PH.D.) - Cairo University - National Cancer Institute - Department Of Pediatric Oncology Summary: This prospective study included 152 newly diagnosed ALL patients below the age of 20 years , who presented in the paediatric oncology clinic of the National Cancer Institute , during the period between 1st of December 1998 to 1ST December 2000Patients were followed till April 2002They received one protocol ; cranial radiotherapy was restricted to patients with initial CNS disease or high - risk patientsInstead CNS prophylaxis to other patients was through extended triple intrathecal therapy with intermediate or high dose systemic chemotherapyThe most common encountered immunophenotype was the pre - B , which presented 33In hundered persent , followed by the T phenotype 291In hundered persent , C - ALL category constituted 267In hundered persent and early Pre - B was 55In hundered persentBy the end of follow up period (41 months) 578In hundered persent achieved CR , 112In hundered persent developed HR , 53In hundered persent developed CNS relapse and one case developed both HR and CNS RThe OS to the whole group was 833In hundered persent , the estimated DFS for the whole group was 766In hundered persent and the estimated EFS were 647In hundered persentOS was correlated to different risk factors , significant relation was found in comparison to immunophenotypes , mediastinal mass , DNA Index and BMd14Significant relation was found when DFS was studied
