Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics Summary: Objective: The aim of the study is to compare between injection of oxytocin intraumbilical versus intravenous infusion in the third stage of second trimesteric abortion.Method: A total of 304 women diagnosed with missed or inevitable miscarriage enrolled in the study. 152 ladies wre randomly allocated to receive intraumbilical injection of oxytocin after delivery of the fetus, while the other 152 received intravenous oxytocin injection.The duration of the third stage calculated ,percetange of retained placenta and need for surgical evacuation, together with 2ry outcome variables including post abortion bleedindg and need for blood transfusion..Results: There is no statistically significant difference between the two groups.Conclusion: oxytocin whether given intravenous infusion or intraumbilical mostly has the same effect in the third stage of second trimesteric abortion
