In this current study, a high efficient photocatalytic nanosystem of chitosan (CS) and polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) based on different morphologies of TiO2 and Au nanocomposites was prepared, namely as CS/PVDC/TiO2&Au nanocomposites. Firstly, the titanium dioxide nanowires TiO2{u2013}NWs, gold nanoparticles (Au{u2013}NPs) and TiO2{u2013}NWs decorated with Au{u2013}NPs (TiO2/Au) were successfully fabricated and wellevaluated using X{u2013}ray diffractometer (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Furthermore, chitosan was prepared from shrimps shell wastes and blended with (PVDC) then different loadings of TiO2/Au nanocomposites were incorporated onto biopolymer as well as thin films. The prepared CS/PVDC/TiO2/Au NPs nanocomposites thin films were characterized using UV{u2013}Visible spectra, Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), X{u2013}ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Moreover, the CS/PVDC/TiO2&Au nanocomposites were used for photodecomposition of ethidium bromide (EtBr), under artificial light 50 W/m2 and sunlight irradiation from ~ 400 {u2013} 600 W/m2 with and without aeration. In addition the integrity of the EtBr, after decomposition was assessed by horizontal gel electrophoresis. The results indicated that, the CS/PVDC/TiO2/Au nanocomposites were sufficient to remove ~ 50 {u2013} 95 % of the EtBr, during irradiation time course, ~ 75 % mineralization by HPLC, ~ 60 % of the EtBr, was degraded, ~65 % of total organic carbon conversion is achieved in the first one hour
