Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Periodontology Summary: Aim: This study aimed to assess the clinical effectiveness of topical chamomile cream in the management of oral lichen planus (OLP) in patients free from any systemic disease Methodology: 34 patients with OLP were randomly divided into 2 groups, 17 patients were treated with 2% chamomile cream three times daily, and the others were treated with 0.1% triamcinolone acetonide in orabase. The numerical rating scale was used to evaluate the degree of pain, and Thongprasom index to record the clinical improvement. Patients were evaluated at baseline, after 2 weeks, and after 4 weeks of treatment. Results: No statistically significant difference was found between the pain score and the Thongprasom scale between the two groups across the study. The triamcinolone acetonide group showed statistically significantly improvement by week 2. However, by week 4 there was no significant difference between them. Conclusions: Topical application of 2% chamomile cream can be a second line-treatment for OLP
