Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine- Department of Periodontology Summary: Aim of the work: was to investigate the efficacy of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) combined with nanoscaffold in enhancing wound healing in irradiated albino rats Methodology: Sixty-four male rats ranging from 140 to150 g were used in this study divided into four equal groups. All rats were subjected to 6 Gray gamma irradiation. Three days post-irradiation, a circular incision was performed having a diameter of 1.5 cm on the back of the rats. The Control group didn{u2019}t receive any treatment, the Nano-scaffold group (NS), Mesenchymal stem cells group (MSC), and Combination group (MSC + NS).The nanoscaffold was put on the surgical wound in (NS and MSC+NS group) and stem cells injected in (MSC and MSC+NS group), and further divided into two subgroups according to the date of the sacrifice on 7 and 14 days and the excised wound was examined. Results: Clinically, the least anteroposterior and lateral length of the wound was recorded in the combination group (MSC + NS). Antero-posterior length significantly decreased by time however the percentage of decrease was the least as compared to the other groups. Histologically, the wound site was completely covered with intact epithelium and thin keratin layer in all treatment groups. The underlying dermis showed normal collagen fibers which were dense and well arranged with the presence of many hair follicles and sebaceous glands
