Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Geology Summary: The thesis presents combined mineralogical, geochemical and remote sensing data for the geological mapping of the Wadi Kalalat area in the south Eastern Desert of Egypt that is occupied by Precambrian basement rocks. Processed satellite imagery data (Landsat-8 OLI) and spectral signature data (TerraSpec spectro-radiometer) are utilized in the geological mapping as well as the discrimination of different intrusive rocks and their country rocks. Also, the thesis concerns with the possible economic potentialities in the Wadi Kalalat area. Field observations, in addition to the petrographic and geochemical studies revealed that the study area essentially include ophiolitic rocks representing the oldest rock unit as an oceanic remnant slab, island arc association, arc mafic-ultramafic magmatism (Gabal El-Motaghairat pluton or younger gabbros), arc to withinplate felsic magmatism (Gabal Batuga pluton or the younger granites) and a variety of mafic to felsic dykes. The ophiolitic rocks are represented by serpentinites and their metasomatic products (talc-carbonate and listwaenite) and some fragments of matagabbro. The island arc rock association comprises a vast area of metagabbro-diorite and older granitoids (GI), in addition to small blocks of metadiabase of limited distribution. The Gabal El-Motaghairat pluton represents almost fresh intrusion of a prominent arc-related calc-alkaline maficultramafic mass that shows gradation from a basal ultramafic variety (peridotite) to olivine gabbro and finally a light-colored variety (anorthositic gabbro) at the top
