Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Community Medicine Summary: Lack of presence of an integrated care bundle to prevent CAUTI in ICU admitted patients in Cairo University Hospital necessitates an intervention that focuses on providing all valid tools and collaborative work to decrease and prevent the incidence of CAUTI in admitted ICU patients. The CAUTI care bundle will help in reduction of CAUTI rates and will also provide data concerning risk factors and possible causes of increased CAUTI rates which will eventually impact the decisions and priority settings adopted by the hospital administration. Objectives: To integrate CAUTI care bundle in ICUs and conduct IC training to the healthcare professionals focusing on needs detected by the baseline assessment and to evaluate its impact on CAUTI rates, knowledge and practice of healthcare professionals. Methodology: Health system-operational research, pre-test posttest with a control arm study. The study was conducted in two ICU units at Kasr AlAiny hospitals. Results: Total baseline knowledge score positively changed from 61.4 ± 14.1 in Pre-test to 90.5 ± 10.9 in EP test to 91.3 ± 10 in LP test among nurses of the intervention ICU. Regarding practice, total baseline catheter insertion practice score positively changed from 54.3 ± 5.6 in Pre-test to 74.1 ± 3.2 in EP test and decreased to 54.4 ± 5.4 in LP test among nurses of the intervention ICU. As for total baseline daily catheter care practice score positively changed from 29.5 ± 5.4 in Pre-test to 65 ± 7.1 in EP test to 48.4 ± 7.8 in LP test among nurses of the intervention ICU. There was a decrease of CAUTI rates in the post-intervention period by 69% in the intervention ICU
