Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Civil Engineering Summary: Microbial desalination cell (MDC) is a derivative technology from the microbial fuel cell (MFC) that use current generated from oxidation of organic matter for desalinating salty water. In this study, an existing model of MDC was studied and parametric study was performed to study the effect of each parameter on MDC performance then the analysis results were used for equations simplification by eliminating the ineffectual parameters. Also, the reduced model was calibrated and validated for cyclic batch flow using experimental literature data .The effect of different operating parameters (external resistance, temperature, substrate concentration and salt concentration) on the performance of MDC system was studied then some modifications were added to the model equations to be in agreement with observed trends in experimental studies
