Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Endodontics Summary: Aim: Assess the fracture strength of endodntically treated teeth with minimally invasive access cavity design versus conventional one. Methods: Forty four extracted human intact mandibular molars were selected and assigned to 4 groups according to the access cavity design that will be fulfilled., Group 1: Conservative Access Cavity (CAC), Group 2: Ninja access cavity (NAC) , Group 3 : truss access cavity (TRAC), Group 4: Traditional Access Cavity (TAC) (n = 11/group/type). Teeth in the TAC group were prepared following the principles of traditional endodontic cavities. Minimal CAC prepared by using 2 periapical radiographs to determine canals location then NAC scans were plotted on cone beam computed tomographic images for localization of all the root canal orifices and TRAC group were mounted in blocks then surface scanned, and scan were merged with a CBCT scan, then an endodontic guide was fabricated. A pathway for the bur was created through a metal sleeve within the guide into dentine for access preparation. The 44 specimens were then loaded to fracture in a universal material testing machine. The maximum load at which the teeth fractured and fracture pattern (restorable or unrestorable) were recorded. vii Results: Regarding the fracture strength, the results showed that there was a significant difference between (NAC), (CAC), (TRAC) and (TAC) groups with (p < 0.001) and no significant difference between (CAC) and (TRAC) groups. Regarding restorability, there was no statistical difference observed between the four groups with (p < 0.001)
