Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Pedodontics Summary: This study was designed to assess the effect of oral health educational program on the oral health awareness and status of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus children in Cairo, Egypt. 7.1. Subjects This study was carried out on 44 type 1 diabetes mellitus children 6-14 years old enrolled from outpatients{u2019} clinic of Department of Endocrine in Abu El Resh Hospitals- Monira Hospital, Cairo, divided into two equal groups: Intervention group and Control group. Intervention Group This group included 22 children; they had manual scaling and received oral health educational program, by power point presentation, live demonstration on a jaw model and poster. Control Group This group included 22 children; they did not receive manual scaling or oral health educational program. 7.2. Method 7.2.1. Baseline examination of intervention and control groups 1- Modified Patient{u2019}s diagnostic chart of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Dental Public Health including patient{u2019}s personal data (Name, age, gender, address, telephone), Past medical, dental history and last record of Glycosylated Hemoglobin (HbA1c), as illustrated in Appendix 2. 2- Questionnaire about the children oral health habit and parents{u2019} oral health awareness, shown in Appendix 3 and Appendix 4. 3- Oral Hygiene Index simplified score which consisted of Debris index (DI) and calculus index (CI), as presented in Table 1, Table 2, Figure 1 and Figure 2. (Green & Vermilion, 1964)
