Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Physical Therapy - Department of Basic Science Summary: Objective: This study was designed to investigate the effect of low frequency magnetic stimulation (LFMS) on cross section area (CSA) of quadriceps muscle in knee osteoarthritic patients. Methods: Twenty four patients with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis (OA) were divided randomly into two equal groups. Group "A" received magnetic stimulation in addition to a conventional physical therapy program while group "B" received traditional physical therapy program consist of (US {u2013}TENS and isometric exercise for quadriceps muscle) twice/week for three consecutive weeks. Lysholm knee scoring scale was used to evaluate patients at two intervals (pre-treatment and post-treatment). Results: Statistical analysis shown that there was a significant change of pre-post treatment at groups A, (p<0.05). Between-group analysis revealed no significant change in pre value of all variables as (p>0.05) while post-treatment there was a significant change in all variables as (p<0.05). Conclusion: Magnetic stimulation is an effective method for improvement of quadriceps CSA, hence rehabilitation of knee osteoarthritis patients
