Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Periodontology Summary: Background: Tooth extraction is a common procedure in dentistry.Tooth extraction doesn{u2019}t include only tooth loss, but also, local changes of hard and soft tissue. The normal socket healing response to this procedure results in a significant loss of alveolar bone and collapse of the surrounding gingiva.Alveolar ridge preservation is a common dental procedure to attenuate resorptive events following tooth extraction.Materials and Methods:10 Patients were subjected to tooth extraction and randomly assigned to either socket preservation with deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) (5 sites) or deproteinizedcamelline bone mineral (DCBM) (5 sites). During healing, Clinical assessment of any type of post-operative complications is noticed. After 6 months, digitalized soft tissue assessment through taking intra-oral scanning superimposed over underlying bone was done. Also, radiographic assessment of dimensional hard tissue changes in vertical and horizontal aspects using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) wasperformed. Results: No post-operative complications were recorded for both groups. No statistical significant difference could be detected in soft tissue changes at different levels (2,4,8mm) between DBMM and DCBB group with p-value of 0.621, 0.702,0.969 respectively. There was no statistical significant difference with p value of 0.727, 0.463 and 0.874 for the buccal and lingual bone height changes respectively
