Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Medical Biochemistry Summary: Background: Psoriasis is a common chronic, recurrent, immune mediated disease of the skin and joints. Metabolic syndrome raises the risk of an individual developing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, insulin resistance, diabetes mellitus and neurological complications such as a cerebrovascular stroke. LncRNA taurine upregulated gene 1 (TUG1) is considered to be involved in regulating carcinogenesis in several malignant tumors. miRNA-377 is a crucial miRNA that plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of many diseases such as diabetic nephropathy and cancers. PPAR-Þ is a ligand-dependent transcription factor and a member of the nuclear receptor superfamily. It enhances the expression of a number of genes encoding proteins involved in glucose and lipid metabolism. Aim of this work: The aim of our workgroup was to detect the role of TUG-1 and miRNA-377 in the pathogenesis of psoriasis in addition to development of metabolic syndrome among psoriasis patients and to explore the possible underlying mechanisms
