Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Tropical Medicine Summary: Background: Non-invasive biomarkers have largely replaced liver biopsy in evaluation of liver fibrosis in the setting of HCV. Liver stiffness measurement is used to assess the regression of fibrosis after antiviral therapy although still has limitations, Autotaxin (ATX) a novel serum marker may be directly related to liver fibrosis and may be used as fibrosis marker.aim of the work: This study was designed to evaluate the changes of serum levels of ATX before treatment with DAA for chronic HCV patients as well as 24 weeks after treatment to define the role of ATX as a serum marker for liver fibrosis and to compare its sensitivity and specificity to the well known FIB4 and APRI. methods: Plasma samples were taken from 86 chronic HCV patients with different degrees of fibrosis. Routine laboratory, transient elastography and ultrasonographic assessments were done. ELISA technique was used to detect ATX.results: Significant improvement of all the laboratory parameters, APRI, FIB-4 and liver stiffness. Increased levels of ATX in patients 24 weeks after treatment which is not significant
