Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Prosthodontics Summary: Aim: The objective of this study was to evaluate the retentive forces of PEEK RPD with PEEK clasps in comparison to Cobalt-Chrome (Co-Cr) RPD with (Co-Cr) clasps during attachment/detachment cycles on abutment teeth in mandibular kennedy class I free end saddle edentulous cases using digital force meter device. Methodology: Mandibular Kennedy class I patients with natural abutments teeth (last standing 2nd premolars) bilaterally were selected for the trial. Abutments of group I Patients were prepared for receiving metal framework removable partial dentures with acrylic teeth and these frameworks were fabricated by conventional casting technique while the abutments of group II patients were prepared to receive PEEK framework removable partial denture with acrylic teeth which were fabricated by injection molding technique. Digital force meter device was used to measure retentive forces of PEEK RPD with peek clasps in comparison to Cobalt-Chrome (Co-Cr) RPD with (Co-Cr) clasps during attachment/detachment cycles. Results: In group I (Control group), there was a statistically significant decrease in retention between 0 month, 1 month and 3 months. For group II (Intervention group) , there was a statistically insignificant difference in retention between 0 month and 1 month, and statistically significant increase in retention between 1 month and 3 months.Comparing the two groups together, there was statistically significant difference between them where Co-Cr RPD offered higher degree of retention in all periods of followup
