Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Orthopedic Surgery Summary: Background: Pediatric bow knee (genu-varum) is a very common orthopedic presentation, different types of surgical procedures have been described for correction of pathological type of this presentation. In this study we have compared between two of these methods (proximal tibial osteotomy alone versus proximal tibial osteotomy with fibular osteotomy). Methods: This is a randomized controlled comparative study aiming to evaluate and compare the efficacy (clinical and radiological) and safety of both techniques in correction of angular knee deformities in skeletally immature patients. 20 patients for each method with total 75 deformed limbs, proximal tibial osteotomy alone group named (group I) and proximal tibial osteotomy with fibular osteotomy group named (group II). Results: Both groups showed significant radiological improvement in I.C distance, mLDFA, MPTA and mechanical axis deviation post-operative, but (group I) showed less correction of mechanical axis by increasing the age or the severity of the deformity. Conclusions: The two surgical procedures are reliable methods of correction of genu-varum deformity in children before maturity with some precautions to reduce rate of complications reported with each method
