Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Summary: Aim: This study aimed to evaluating the head and neck postural changes after orthognathic surgery in skeletal class III patients study conducted on ten patients with skeletal class III underwent Lefort I osteotomy for maxillary advancement and BSSRO for mandibular setback. Methodology : CBCT Scan And Cephalometric X-Ray for each patient in natural head position were taken before and after 6 months of the operation , with the mandibles occluding at the centric relation. before scanning , the patients were asked to stand upright using their best balancing ability with their eyes looking horizontally at the mirror image in the CBCT and cephalometric machines ,the patients CBCT and cephalometry database were imported to measure the cranio-cervical angles and cranio-horizontal-vertical angles.Result : The results showed that there is no statistically significant changes in cranio-cervical angles nor cervico-horizontal and cervicovertical angles ,a limited number of weakly significant correlations were observed ,the analysis showed that the correlation coefficient were similar in the two head positions investigated and no distinction is made therefore between the finding in the two head position . Our current findings, particularly with regard to the use of cephalometry and cone-beam CT as a diagnostic aid for subjects affected by dentofacial deformity , do not support existence of clinically and statistically relevant correlations between skeletal class III traits and head and neck posture
