Background: Overweight and obesity are from the major public health challenges for high, middle and low income countries. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) has many advantages over continuous aerobic exercise in improving aerobic capacity and health in both healthy and obese people. Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the response of the aerobic capacity to high intensity interval training in obese subjects. Subjects and Methods: 45 female subjects who identified as overweight (BMI 25-29.9 Kg\m2) and class 1 obesity with body mass index( BMI) (30-34.9 Kg\m2) according to world health organization were selected from faculty of physical therapy, Modern University for Technology and Information.Their ages ranged from (18-38) years old.They received HIIT program for 3 session per week for 8 weeks. Each training session consisted of 10 repetitions of 60 seconds running at 80 -95% of maximal heart rate followed by 60 seconds walking at 55-60% maximal heart rate (HRmax) for 10 repetitions for recovery. Pre and post program assessment of VO2max and anaerobic capacity using cardiopulmonary exercise test through using modified bruce protocol were performed for all subjects.Results: HIIT induced a significant improvement of maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max) in obese subjects with a percent of 14.23%, anaerobic threshold also showed improvement with a percentage of 8.82%. Conclusion: HIIT for 8 weeks in obese subjects results in improvement of aerobic capacity and anaerobic threshold
