Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Orthodontics Summary: Aim: To evaluate the accuracy and precision in terms of repeatability and reproducibility of standard anthropometric linear measurements made with two different three-dimensional imaging systems namely Bellus 3D Face Camera Pro and Planmeca ProMax 3D ProFace system by comparing them to direct anthropometric measurements. Methodology: 40 adult patients, with an age range (18-35 years) with normal balanced facial proportions excluding patients with craniofacial anomalies, obvious skeletal shifts, incompetent lips, facial asymmetry and skin lesions on the face. Fifteen landmarks were labelled on their faces. Each participant was scanned twice with three different 3D scanning techniques; Planmeca ProMax 3D ProFace, Bellus 3D Face Camera Pro mounted on tripod and Bellus 3D Face Camera Pro held by the participant. Direct measurements were taken twice to get the average immediately after the scanning sessions. Results: Planmeca showed statistically significant difference compared to direct measurements in morphologic height of the face (N-Gn), height of the upper lip (Sn-Sto), intercanthal width (En-En), width of nose (Al-Al) and width of mandible (Go-Go). While, Bellus 3D Face Camera Pro either mounted on tripod or held by participant him/herself showed a statistical significant difference in width of mouth (Ch-Ch) and width of mandible (Go-Go) only
