Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Geophysics Summary: Seismic data are used in petroleum exploration to define stratigraphic and structural features in the subsurface. To analyze the prospectivity of a certain study area, petroleum companies study carefully the effects of rock and fluid properties on the seismic attributes in their exploration program. The fluid properties and their effects on the seismic responses are illustrated in this thesis, over the studied area of Pliocene gas discoveries (X & Y) and two other nearby Pliocene prospects (PE & PW), which are located at the offshore Nile Delta, Egypt. Different attributes are performed for lithologic differentiation and hydrocarbon indication. Reservoir data modelling and fluid properties study are carried out, using a number of published predictors, including Batzle and Wang model. Predicting the rock velocities as a function of saturating fluids, using the Gassmann-Biot model, while the amplitude variation with the offset model (AVO), using Zoeppritz equations, to predict the seismic responses from the layered rock properties
