Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and dental medicine - Department of Prosthodontics Summary: Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the effect of using cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive as an additional mean of fixation of free gingival graft (FGG) on graft shrinkage and success rate Methodology: 10 patients suffering from inadequate zone of keratinized mucosa received a FGG harvested from the palate fixed with cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive beside sutures. Results: Grafts healed with no clinical significant signs of infection and bleeding during first 3 months follow up period. The significantly highest amount of shrinkage occurred from baseline to 3 months (28.04% ± 14.12). This was followed by that observed from baseline to 1 month postoperative (20.58% ± 11.05). While the significantly least amount of shrinkage occurred from 1 month to 3 months (9.84% ± 8.36). statistically significant difference in amount of shrinkage at different time intervals (P<0.001). the success rate was 100% Conclusion: Cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive is a material that can be used in FGG fixation beside sutures due to it's antimicrobial, hemostatic and good tissue compatibility without foreign-body response with low percentage of shrinkage and high success rate
