Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Nursing - Department of Community Health Nursing Summary: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic auto-immune disease that affects all aspects of the patients{u2019} life causing multiple progressive symptoms. Fatigue is the most common symptom of the disease which leads to dependency of patients on their family for carrying out their daily routine activities. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of an educational program on fatigue level among multiple sclerosis patients. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was used in the current study. The study was conducted in MS Outpatient Clinic in Kasr Al-Aini University Hospital. A convenient sample of 250 MS patients was recruited for this study. Six tools were used in this study including; Structured MS patient Dietary Knowledge Questionnaire, 24 hour Dietary Recall Sheet, the Arabic version of Perceived Stress Scale, the Arabic version of the International Physical Activity, the Arabic version of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and the Arabic version of the Modified Fatigue Impact Scale. The current results showed that, majority of MS patients had satisfactory levels of dietary knowledge in the post and follow-up tests as compared to fewer cases in pre-test. Moreover, there was a statistically significant change in physical, cognitive, and psychological fatigue subscales in post program and in follow-up compared to preprogram (p=.001, p=.0001, and p=.0001 respectively). There was a highly statistically negative correlation between dietary knowledge mean score and cognitive, psychosocial fatigue score among MS patients (p=0.01). The study concluded that, MS patients' dietary knowledge improved after implementation of the educational program as well as there was a decline in MS patients' fatigue level with statically significance differences between pre, post and follow-up tests. The study recommended that, replication of the study with a larger probability sample from different geographical areas in Egypt to validate and generalize the findings
