Opacification of the posterior capsule caused by postoperative proliferation of cells in the capsular bag remains the most frequent complication of cataract intraocular lens surgery (Apple , 2000) Postoperative epithelial cell proliferation is also involved in the pathogenesis of anterior capsular opacification / fibrosis (ACO) and interlenticular opacification (ILO) a recently described complication of piggyback lenses (Gayton et al , 2000)
