تحاول هذه الدراسة تسليط الضوء على التغير الذي طرأ على الاقتصاد المصري في النصف الثاني من القرن التاسع عشر واثره على أسواق القرى، وذلك من خلال رصد نوعية أسواق القرى في فترة الدراسة، و التطورات التي طرأت عليها، ورصد حجم المبادلات التجارية بتلك الأسواق، ووالقاء الضواء على اهم الآليات التي من خلالها كانت تدار تلك الأسواق، وإبراز دور لاستثمارات الأجنبية في إدارة أسواق القرى، ومحاولة التعرف على طبيعة المشتغلين بالتجارة في تلك الأسواق، واهم الرسوم التي فرضت على هؤلاء المشتغلين بأسواق القرى، وإلى أي مدى أثرت تلك الرسوم والعوائد المالية على تجارة القرى؟ فضلا عن رصد اهم المجالات التجارية لأسواق القرى، والاجابة عن سؤال مهم وهو : هل كان لتغير أنماط الاستهلاك بالقرى دور في تحديد أنماط السلع بأسواقها ؟ وقد اتخذت الدراسة من عام 1854م بداية لها على اعتبار أنه العام الذى تحررت فيه السوق المصرية نهائيا من سيطرة الدولة، وتنتهى في عام 1914م باعتباره العام الذى شهد اتجاه سلطات الاحتلال البريطاني في مصر إلى تعديل سياستها الاقتصادية تماشيا مع الظروف الاستثنائية التي فرضتها الحرب العالمية الأولى The study seeks to answer a major question: What impact did the change that occurred in the Egyptian economy in the second half of the nineteenth century have on village markets? This is done by answering a number of sub-questions, the most important of which is: What is the quality of village markets during the study period? What developments have occurred? What is the volume of trade exchanges in these markets? What are the mechanisms through which these markets were managed? Did foreign investments have a role in managing village markets? What is the nature of those involved in trading in those markets? Were there fees imposed on those working in village markets? To what extent did these fees and financial returns affect village trade? What are the most important commercial areas for village markets? Did changing consumption patterns in villages play a role in determining the patterns of goods in their markets? The study took the year 1854 AD as its beginning, considering that it was the year in which the Egyptian market was completely liberated from state control following the issuance of a package of important regulations and laws during the era of Saeed Pasha that eliminated what remained of the monopoly system. This was reflected in the freedom of individuals to practice trade in village markets without government restrictions. As for 1914 AD as the end of the study period, it is attributed to it being the year that witnessed the British occupation authorities in Egypt’s tendency to amend their economic policy in line with the exceptional circumstances imposed by World War I, and attempts to Regulating and controlling village markets, by forming pricing and supply
