Scapular dyskinesia is one of the contributing factors to NSCNP. The suspension system is a relatively new method that can be used in rehabilitation of scapular dysfunction. Purpose: The aim of this pretest post- test randomized clinical trial was to study the effects of scapular muscles training using a suspension system and stretching exercise on improving pain, function, muscle strength, and scapular position in patients with non-specific chronic neck pain and scapular dyskinesia. Subjects and methods: Fifty-two patients diagnosed with NSCNP and scapular dyskinesia participated in this study. Their mean age was (24.46±5.32) years. They were randomly allocated to one of two groups: Exercise group (Group I) and suspension group (Group II). Group I received stretching exercises and resisted scapular exercises. Group II received stretching exercises and scapular training using suspension system. All patients were assessed before and after treatment for pain intensity using the numeric pain rating scale, function using the neck disability index (NDI), scapular muscle strength using a handheld dynamometer, and scapular position using lateral scapular slide test (LSST). Results: Kruskal-Wallis test revealed that there were no statistically significant differences between the two groups post-intervention for pain, function, and scapular stability (p>0.05). On the other hand, there was a significant difference between both groups in favor of group II regarding improvement in scapular muscles strength except for upper trapezius muscle strength. Conclusion: Using suspension type exercises is beneficial in improving the scapular muscle strength as compared to the traditional methods, while both methods have similar effect on pain, function, and scapular stability in patients with NSCNP and scapular dyskinesia.
