Topical treatment of vaginitis could be a rational choice for management of localized infection while systemic therapy could be limited to patients proven to be non responsive or intolerant to intravaginally administered druges . Although antimycotic agents such as broad spectrum imidazole derivatives are now available for topical short-term therapy intravaginally delivered drugs may fail to achieve high concentration at the site of infection due to their fairly prompt removal from the vaginal compartment through physiological secretions
