<br/><br/> Treatment for patients with a first - time acute anterior shoulder dislocation is somewhat controversial . The retrospective studies that do exist have shown recurrence rates as high as 25 - 100% in patients younger than 40 years of age who have a first - time dislocation and are treated non operatively in from of immobilization with the arm tied to the torso for three to four weeks following a primary shoulder dislocation and followed by rehabiliation programs for regaining range of motion
