Cyclic Triaxial Test is used to study the stress - deformation behavior of the soilYoung's modulus , E and the damping ratio , are measured in cyclic triaxial test when strain - controlled test is conductedIn this test , control system is used to apply cycles of controlled deformationCurrently , the classical PID (Proportional , Integral and Derivative) control is widely used where its gains are manually tunedThe problem with this type of control is in the PID gains which differ from one test to another depending on the tested soilThe PID controllers also exhibit poor performance with the highly nonlinear systemsGenerally , tuning the Proportional , Integral , and Derivative constants are time consuming and require high experience In this research , a fuzzy controller technique is used to develop a new control system for strain - controlled testMATLAB software is used for developing and evaluating the performance of the proposed control system in case of cyclic loadingThe proposed control system shows its superiority over the PID controller especially for the highly nonlinear soil behavior
