Crude Egyptian monazite sand graded about 47% was digested using sulphuric acid then leaching with normal water into two successive stages . Double sulphate precipition was then applied upon the two monazite sulphate solutions using anhydrous Na₂ SO₄ . The precipitates were converted to hydroxides then their cerium constituents were oxidized at 180₀C for 10.0 hrs
