The aim of this study was to explore the protective effect of adiponectin gene therapy and swimming exercise against the deterioration in the skeletal muscle performance of the hind limb in rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus and insulin resistance. Furthermore, the role of SERCA and Glut4 in the pathogenesis of skeletal muscle weakness and their modulation by adiponectin gene therapy and exercise in an insulin resistance rat model were exemined
