Elevated phosphorus (P) and calcium Ca x P product are associated with vascular calcification and cardiovascular disease (CVD) morbidity and mortality. This study examined the effect of sevelamer hydrochloride versus calcium carbonate as phosphate binders on mineral metabolism, coronary artery calcification (CAC) and FGF 23 in patients on regular hemodialysis
