Modified 9Cr - 1Mo steel pipes were welded using three different levels of heat inputs 1.1, 2.28 and 3.16 K.J/ mm, respectively . Normalizing treatment at 1050 C followed by tempering at 760 C, and tempering only were employed . The best combination of mechanical and corrosion properties with a significant increase of about 90% in time to rupture were obtained with heat inputs between 1.1 and 2.28 kJ/mm when employed with normalizing treatment compared to normal tempering treatment
