Most of patients with HCC are diagnosed at a late stage. Therefore, the prognosis of HCC patients is generally very poor. Alpha.fetoprotein has been widelly used , but its sensitivity has not been satisfactory , in addition to its non-specific elevation innon malignant hepatic diseases. Glypican 3, this protein(GPC3) is over-expressed in HCC, and not in normal hepatocytes and non-malignant liver disease.
