The pharmacological potentials of the ethanol extracts of both cynara cornigers and cichorium endivia were studied using carrageenan-induced hind paw edema for anti-inflammatory, CC14-induced liver damage for hepatoprotective activities in male rats, in addition of the acute toxicity. The estimated LD50 of the extracts was 10 gm/kg. For anti-inflammatory activity, the most potent extracts were the ethanol extracts of the whole Chicorium endivia (16%) and flowers, leaves and roots (17,12 and 14%) of Cynara cornigera
